D-DENT’s mission is to restore the Oral Health of low-income, uninsured elderly, and developmentally disabled Oklahomans with no other means to pay for dental care, by providing free comprehensive dental care through a network of volunteer dentists.

About D~DENT

The D-DENT Program has been developed in conjunction with the Oklahoma Dental Association, the Community Council of Central Oklahoma, the University of Oklahoma, College of Denistry, Variety Health Center and other social service agencies serving the developmentally disabled and the elderly.  Since the D-DENT Program was implemented (Septemeber, 1987), over 500 volunteer Dentists and 85 dental laboratories statewide have provided in excess of 22,500 appointments, donating comprehensive dental services (including crowns, bridges, partials, dentures, etc.) valued at over $500,000.00 to support the D-DENT Program.

Also, D-DENT began a "Preventive Dental Education" program in 1999, as a compliment to the "Restorative" program.  It is funded by Oklahoma City County Health Department and United Way of Central Oklahoma.  A Registered Dental Hygienist makes educational presentations regarding the importance of daily oral hygiene to the youth, elderly, and staff in living facilities and supplies "toothbrush kits".  Where relevant, the care of dentures is also addressed and free "denture-care kits" are provided.
